Tom started working in the industry in March 1980 when he became a licensed real estate agent, selling existing homes as well as new construction. He became a licensed real estate broker in 1983, and then a licensed builder in 1985.

Both Tom and Melinda were born and raised in St. Johns and currently reside in DeWitt. They have two grown children, and as of August 2019, one grandchild. Tom’s hobbies include woodworking, landscaping, exercising, boating and winter sports.

Tom and his wife, Melinda, founded Tom Motz Homes in the summer of 1985. As the president of the company, Tom works in sales and estimating of new construction and remodels, as well as overseeing the land development arm of the business. He loves the versatility of getting to wear many hats and the creativity the work affords him.

Wayne started working in construction as a student in high school carpentry classes and bought his first house at 18 years old. Wayne has worked in the real estate industry for 30+ years, and has been with Tom Motz Homes since 1987.

In his role, Wayne handles new and existing home sales, and he frequently helps clients sell their existing home when building a new custom home. His favorite part about the job is working with people and watching their home go from a raw lot to a completed home that their families will enjoy for many years!

He lives in St. Johns, where he was born and raised. Wayne and his wife, Anna, have two grown children. His interests include getting his “sawdust therapy” in his workshop doing woodworking projects, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle around the Upper Peninsula, and restoring and repainting wrecked vehicles.

Tim Motz

Site Supervisor

Tim has worked in custom home building and construction for 30+ years. He joined his brother at Tom Motz Homes in 1987. As the site supervisor, Tim oversees job sites and coordinates the work of subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring projects remain on schedule and on budget. His favorite parts of the job are the relationships he makes with clients and subcontractors, delivering finished products and figuring out how to complete challenging things.

Tim has lived in St. Johns his entire life. Tim and his wife have three children and four grandchildren. When not working, Tim enjoys reading books and spending time with his family at his Mid-Michigan cottage, planting wildlife habitat, deer hunting, and taking walks with his wife and dogs.

Becky has worked for Tom Motz Homes for more than 12 years and in the construction industry for 20+ years. She truly loves working in the home building business and the flexibility her job gives her.

Becky is originally from St. Johns but has lived in the DeWitt area since 2001 with her husband, Dean, and her three boys. She likes spending time with her family, watching movies, and being a fan at her boys’ sporting events.

Field Operations

Jerry has worked in construction for nearly 40 years, and has been at Tom Motz Homes since 1990. In his role, he oversees construction labor at job sites and is the primary service provider for warranty and customer care. The best part of the job to him is getting to know the homeowners.

Jerry has lived in Westphalia his entire life. He has three children and seven grandchildren.When not working, Jerry enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
